SERRA BONITA RESERVE - VIsitor´s Guide
Dear Visitor, Welcome to Serra Bonita!
Your well-being and the Reserve´s protection depend on everyone´s collaboration.
We made you this Guide, based on principles of Conscious Behavior in natural areas, adopted all around the world,
to ensure appropriate care is taken both of your safety and comfort, and of Nature.
We request your kind attention and collaboration. Please read carefully, provide requested information and
follow our instructions correctly. We are not liable tor damage due to non-compliance with those instructions.
Thank you for your visit, and have a great stay!
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE TRAVELING
The Reserve is located in Camacan , Bahia. Access to Camacan is 80 km south of Itabuna, off highway BR 101. The nearest airports are in Ilheus (135 km) and Porto Seguro (235 km). The nearest Interstate bus terminals are in Itabuna , Ilheus (120 km) and Eunápolis (140 km ). Some interstate buses stop at the bus station in Camacan; check with your bus company.
From Camacan to the Reserve the distance is 16 km, The first 10 km are on the dirt road from Camacan to Jacareci, and the last 6 km are a cobblestone pavement up the mountain, toward the towers. At kilometer 10 of the Camacan - Jacareci road there is a large sign indicating the entrance to the Reserve. The last stretch of 6 km up the mountain is inadequate for passenger cars. Trying to drive up in passenger vehicles can result in damage to the vehicle , need of towing, and many unnecessary problems and expenses. To safely perform this stretch, drive up in a 4WD only.
We do not offer transportation services, and so far we are not aware of car rental companies that offer 4WD vehicles in Ilheus or Porto Seguro. For transfer between Ilheus or Porto Seguro to the Reserve, or to different locations in Camacan during your stay, we recommend Lukas Daneu : # 55 73 991619630 -
For your safety, we discourage the hiring of other providers, since even in 4WD vehicles inexperienced drivers may find it difficult to get to the top of the mountain. In an emergency , ask the staff of the Reserve to request local taxi services. We also do not recommend that you hire local cabs without our assistance, especially if you are carrying equipment, foreign currency or passports.
WHAT TO BRING
For your comfort, make sure you bring everything you need. We do not do trips to town to purchase items, except in case of a medical emergency. We recommend you bring the following items:
Personal items. Shampoo, soap , conditioner, moisturizer, cream and razors, wipes, deodorant, lip balm, etc. You might want to bring sunscreen and insect repellent for your skin. Be sure to bring your own medication. We do not medicate anyone, and medical and pharmacy Camacan are precarious .
Equipment. A camera, computer, batteries, chargers, hair dryer, etc. as needed. We have 110V and 220V. Be sure to bring: a flashlight, an adapter for your electronic equipment, and a cell phone, as we do not offer telephone services. The operator Vivo´s signal is good at the Reserve, while other operators´ signals are intermittent. You can purchase a Vivo chip locally, and request pre-paid internet services at a fair price.
Shoes. For walking on the trails, be sure to bring high boots (preferrably knee-high) or leggings (leather or rubber protection gear). Keep in mind that, in the event of accidents involving snakes, it may not be possible to reach medical care in time. Be sure to bring clothing that´s appropriate the weather, and sufficient for the length of your stay. For your clothes to last longer in the rainy season, bring a raincoat or an umbrella. Check the local climate conditions and weather forecast before packing.
